SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OMAHA/VALLEY NE
513 PM CDT WED JUN 24 1998

...SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR EASTERN NEBRASKA AND SOUTHWEST IOWA...

SPOTTER ACTION...
STORM SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE REQUIRED THIS EVENING OR TONIGHT IN
EASTERN NEBRASKA AND SOUTHWEST IOWA.

DISCUSSION...
LATE THIS AFTERNOON...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WAS OVER CENTRAL NEBRASKA
WITH A WARM FRONT EXTENDING EAST ACROSS NORTHEASTERN NEBRASKA AND
WESTERN IOWA. A DRYLINE ALSO EXTENDED SOUTH FROM THE SURFACE LOW INTO
CENTRAL KANSAS. THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER NORTH CENTRAL
NEBRASKA THIS AFTERNOON AND ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHEAST ALONG THE
WARM FRONT TONIGHT. THEREFORE...THE GREATEST RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER
WILL BE OVER THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE OUTLOOK AREA...GENERALLY
NORTH OF A NORFOLK TO PENDER TO ONAWA IOWA LINE.

FARTHER SOUTH ALONG THE DRYLINE...WARM TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER LEVELS
OF THE ATMOSPHERE ARE EXPECTED TO LIMIT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY.
HOWEVER...IF THUNDERSTORMS ARE ABLE TO DEVELOP...THEY WILL HAVE A GOOD
CHANCE OF BECOMING SEVERE.

LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE GREATEST THREAT FROM THESE
STORMS...BUT A FEW TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY WITH STORMS
MOVING ALONG THE WARM FRONT.
