450 PM CDT SAT JUN 6 1998

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS HAS EXTENDED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  OBION COUNTY IN WESTERN TENNESSEE

* UNTIL 1000 PM CDT

* AT 435 PM CDT... TENNESSEE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTS THAT FLOOD
WATERS FROM TWO LEVEE BREAKS HAS CAUSED FLOODING IN AND EAST OF THE
TOWN OF RIVES. THESE LEVEES ARE LOCATED ALONG THE NORTH FORK OF THE
OBION RIVER. HIGHEST FLOOD WATERS ARE NOW MOVING THROUGH RIVES WITH
WATER RECEDING EAST OF TOWN. OTHER LEVEES IN THE AREA APPEAR TO BE
HOLDING AND IF SO NO NEW FLOODING IS EXPECTED. FLOOD WATERS IN RIVES
ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN FALLING THIS EVENING WITH DIMINISHING EFFECTS
AS THE WATER MOVES DOWNSTREAM INTO THE OBION RIVER. 

* 2 MOBILE HOMES HAVE RECEIVED MAJOR DAMAGE AND 12 HOMES MINOR DAMAGE
FROM THE FLOOD WATERS. MANY ROADS IN RIVES ARE UNDER WATER. 

.A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...
ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
