400 AM CDT SUN SEP 13 1998

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A

   * FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
     ORLEANS PARISH IN LOUISIANA
     JEFFERSON PARISH IN LOUISIANA
     
   * UNTIL 600 AM CDT

   * AT 355 AM CDT...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR      
     DETECTED A SOLID AREA OF HEAVY RAIN EXTENDING FROM CENTRAL      
     JEFFERSON PARISH AND INTO WESTERN ORLEANS PARISH. THE          
     AREA OF HEAVY RAIN WAS MOVING SLOWLY NORTH AND NORTHWEST AT 10  
     MPH. THIS RAIN WILL AFFECT THE NEW ORLEANS METRO AREAS THROUGH  
     600 AM.

RAINFALL OF 4 TO 5 INCHES WILL LIKELY OCCUR WITH THESE STORM THROUGH 
600 AM. DUE TO SATURATED GROUND CONDITIONS...EXCESSIVE RUNOFF WILL 
OCCUR WITH THESE STORMS AND CAUSE FLOODING OF ROADWAYS IN THE NEW 
ORLEANS METRO AREAS. 

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS DEEPLY FLOODED ROADWAYS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN
DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS, ABANDON IT
IMMEDIATELY AND SEEK HIGHER GROUND.
