AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE 308 PM CDT FRI MAY 29 1998 FORECAST PROBLEMS ARE POPS AND TEMPERATURES CURRENT KLNX RADAR DOES NOT INDICATE ANY THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. SATELLITE HINTS AT SOME POSSIBLE CONVECTION STARTING IN NORTHEAST COLORADO. THE 18Z SURFACE CHART SHOWS TWO BOUNDARIES...A COLD FRONT ACROSS THE NORTHERN NEBRASKA BORDER AND THE STATIONARY FRONT ACROSS CENTRAL NEBRASKA. THE MODELS INITIALIZED WELL WITH WATER VAPOR BUT THE ETA/AVN ARE IN BETTER AGREEMENT THAN THE NGM. THE NGM IS FASTER AND FURTHER NORTH WITH THE LOW WHICH IS ITS TYPICAL BIAS. THE RIDGE OVER THE PLAINS MOVES EAST OVER THE MISSOURI VALLEY BY 36 HOURS. AT THAT TIME SPLIT FLOW BEGINS TO AFFECT THE FA. THE COLD FRONT OVER THE NORTHERN NEBRASKA BORDER WILL BE THE FOCUS FOR THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT ALONG WITH ANOTHER NEARLY STATIONARY BOUNDARY ACROSS CENTRAL NEBRASKA WHERE DEWPOINTS ARE IN THE UPPER 50S AND LOW 60S. ETA GRIDDED DATA INDICATES Q-G FORCING AND UPWARD VERTICAL VELOCITIES AS A SHORTWAVE MOVES OVER THE FA TONIGHT. THE THETA-E RIDGE IS ALSO OVER THE FA ALONG WITH CAPE RANGING FROM 2000-3000 J/KG. SOME FORCING EXISTS IN THE NORTHEAST DURING THE AFTERNOON ON SATURDAY BUT SHIFTS EAST OF THE FA BY EVENING.
