AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE

...FORECAST PROBLEM INVOLVES LOCATION OF TSRA TONIGHT AND TOMORROW
WITH TEMPS A SECONDARY CONCERN...

18Z SFC ANALYSIS HAS FRONT STILL ALONG THE NEB/KS BORDER BUT HAS
SHOWN SIGNS OF LIFTING NEWD ON THE WRN SIDE THROUGH THE MORNING.
VISIBLE SAT IMAGERY HAS ST/SC ERRODING QUICKLY IN THE SWRN PORTION
OF THE STATE/NWRN KS. HLC TMEPS CLIMBED VERY QUICKLY UNDER SUNSHINE
AND SWRLY WINDS. TCU/CB DEVELOPING ALONG THE FOOTHILLS ALSO PER
VISIBLE PICS AND KFTG 88D AS SHORTWAVE APPROACHES.

MODELS ARE SIMILAR IN UPPER PATTERN AS THEY LIFT WRN STATES LONG
WAVE TROF OUT TO THE NE...HOWEVER EACH HAS ITS OWN PRPBLEMS WITH
INDIVIDUAL SHORT WAVES...WITH THE ETA GETTING CONVECTIVE FEEDBACK.
USUAL USE FOR ETA ONCE CONVECTION DEVELOPS IN THE MODEL INVOLVES
FOLLOWING UPPER DIVERGENCE TO TRACK POSSIBLE MCS...BUT 12Z RUN IS
NOT AS CLEAR CUT AS THE 00Z SAT RUN. NGM ALSO DEVELOPS UPPER
DIVERGENCE BY 06Z SUN IN ASSOCIATION WITH POSSIBLE CONVECTION...
ONE OVER THE NEB/KS BORDER...WITH ANOTHER N OF THE STATE. IN THIS
RESPECT...NGM WOULD SEEM MOST REASONABLE WITH MID LEVEL SHORT WAVE
COMING INTO THE SWRN HALF OF THE STATE...AND POSITION OF FRONT. A
COUPLE OF LIMITING FACTORS FOR SVR...1) CLOUD COVER TO THE N OF THE
FRONT AND 2)WEAK MID LEVEL WINDS. STILL...LOOKS LIKE TSRA WILL COME
OFF THE FRONT RANGE AND EVENTUALLY DEVELOP INTO AN MCS SOMEWHERE IN
WRN/SW NEBR THEN TRACK ALONG THE FRONT IN SRN NEBR. HEAVY RAIN
LOOKS TO BE THE MAIN THREAT WITH HIGH PRECIP WATER VALUES AND
RELATIVELY DEEP WARM CLOUD LAYER. HIGHEST POPS WILL BE ACROSS THE
WRN AND SRN PORTIONS OF THE CWA TONIGHT.

FOR SUNDAY...THE FRONT SHOULD LIE ALONG A LINE FROM THE NRN
PANHANDLE THROUGH NC INTO C NEBRASKA BASED ON 850 MB DEW POINTS.
CAPE VALUES IN EXCESS OF 2000 J/KG ACROSS PARTS OF NC AND ETA
PROGGED UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENCE IN THE SAME AREA WOULD LEAD ONE TO
BELIEVE THAT ANOTHER MCS SHOULD DEVELOP IN THE NRN PANHANDLE/SWRN
SD ON SUNDAY AND TRACK EWD INTO CENTRAL NEBR. MODEL MID LEVEL
VORTICITY PATTERN QUITE DIFFERENT...PROBABLY DUE TO CONVECTIVE
FEEDBACK EARLY ON IN THE ETAS CASE. POPS WILL BE INCLUDED ALL
AREAS...POSSIBLY HIGHER IN THE NC BASED ON LOCATION OF THE FRONT.

TEMPS WILL BE FAIRLY TOUGH BASED ON TIMING OF CONVECTION...BUT
GUIDANCE IS SIMILAR AND GENERALLY REASONABLE. ALTHOUGH SFC MOISTURE
WILL REMAIN HIGH TOMORROW...A DRYING TREND IN THE LOW TO MID LEVELS
SHOULD ALLOW PLENTY OF INSOLATION TO GET THRU BY LATE IN THE DAY.
FURTHER DRYING SHOULD RESULT IN MID 90S BY MONDAY.

PRELIMINARY GUIDANCE FOR COORDINATION PURPOSES ONLY. OFFICILA
FORECAST IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE PRODUCT OMAZFPNE.
