SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
937 AM CST TUE JAN 6 1998

STRONG THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUING OVER THE AREA WITH VERY HEAVY RAINS
SO FAR IN CHAMBERS/LIBERTY/GALVESTON/HARRIS COUNTIES. FLASH FLOOD
WATCH WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT.

LL SSE FLOW WILL CONTINUE TO PUMP THE MOISTURE INTO THE AREA AS THE
UPPER LOW MOVES VERY SLOWLY SE AND BECOMES CUT-OFF. THIS IS A VERY
DANGEROUS PATTERN DUE TO THE NEARLY SATURATED AIRMASS AND GROUND AND
SLOW UPPER LEVEL MOVEMENT. RR OF JET PRODUCING COPIOUS LIFT OVER THE
NRN 2/3RDS OF THE AREA. THIS UPPER PATTERN WILL BECOME COUPLED AS THE
SUBTROPICAL JET CUTS ACROSS S TX AND INTO THE GULF THIS AFTERNOON.
OUR SAVING GRACE MAY BE TO GET THE RAIN-COOLED AIR TO PUSH SOUTH OF
THE AREA BUT THIS DREAM LOOKS LIKE IT WILL GO DOWN THE PROVERBIAL
DRAIN DUE TO THE CUTOFF LOWS SLOW MOVEMENT. WILL COOR WITH SAT ON
UPDATE FOR FFA. NEW 12Z RUNS HAVE SLOWED THINGS DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY
AND FORESEE THE RAIN CONTINUING THROUGH TONIGHT.

WILL UPDATE POPS FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT AND WILL NEED TO KEEP SVR
MENTIONED THROUGH TONIGHT.
