SPARTANBURG COUNTY IN SOUTH CAROLINA * UNTIL 430 AM EDT * AT 1230 AM... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN JUST EAST OF A LINE FROM WOODRUFF TO SPARTANBURG... MOVING SLOWLY NORTH NORTHEAST. HEAVY RAINFALL HAS BEEN FALLING OVER PORTIONS OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY SINCE BEFORE SUNSET LAST NIGHT. SOME AREAS MAY HAVE RECEIVED OVER THREE INCHES OF RAIN ALREADY TONIGHT. COUNTY OFFFICALS REPORT SEVERAL ROADS AND UNDERPASSES CLOSED. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GREENVILLE/SPARTANBURG, SC 845 PM EDT FRI AUG 14 1998 STRONG CONVECTION THIS EVENING CONTINUES TO BE CONFINED MAINLY ALONG SURFACE MOISTURE CONVERGENCE AXIS STRETCHING FROM CNTRL GA INTO SRN SC WHERE DEWPOINTS GENERALLY RUN LOWER TO MIDDLE 70S AT PRESENT. SHOWERS AND TSTMS ACROSS PIEDMONT SECTIONS AND ERN MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS REMAIN RELATIVELY WARM TOPPED ON IR IMAGERY BUT CONTINUE TO DEVELOP EAST OF THE UPPER SHORTWAVE. LOW LEVEL SOUTHEAST FLOW IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE UPSLOPE CONDITIONS AND MAINTAIN THE RELATIVELY DEEP MOISTURE ACROSS THE AREA EAST OF THE UPPER TROUGH.
