WICHITA...GOVE AND LOGAN COUNTIES IN NORTHWEST KANSAS...

MUCH OF THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY IN NORTHEAST AND EAST
CENTRAL COLORADO IS BEGINNING TO MOVE SOUTHEAST TOWARDS THE KANSAS
BORDER. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING HAVE
BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE LARGE CLUSTER OF STORMS. RAINFALL RATES OF
UP TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR HAVE BEEN COMMONPLACE WITHIN THIS CLUSTER OF
STORMS.

IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THIS CLUSTER OF STORMS WILL MOVE INTO KANSAS
TONIGHT AND AFFECT AREAS CURRENTLY UNDER THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH.
ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS ACROSS NORTHWEST KANSAS THIS EVENING ARE
FAVORABLE FOR HEAVY RAINFALL TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT
HOURS.

THE SMOKY HILL RIVER BASIN...IN GOVE AND LOGAN COUNTIES...WILL BE
THE AREA THAT IS MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLOODING TONIGHT....BUT GREELEY
AND WICHITA COUNTIES ARE ALSO UNDER THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH. SOIL
MOISTURE ... RIVER GAUGE... AND SATELLITE DATA SUGGEST THAT RAINFALL
RATES OF 1 TO 1 1/2 INCHES PER HOUR COULD EASILY PRODUCE FLOODING
TONIGHT ACROSS ALL FOUR COUNTIES.

AT 745 PM CDT...THE RIVER STAGE ON THE SMOKY HILL RIVER AT ELKADER
KANSAS...22 MILES SOUTH OF OAKLEY...WAS 5.61 FEET. THE RIVER HAS
RISEN 1.25 FEET IN THE PAST SIX HOURS.
