WL HAVE TO WATCH BOUNDARIES AND SHORTWAVES ALOFT THRU THURSDAY. ETA SHOWS FAIRLY STRONG VORT MAX SPINNING OVER GLD CWA TONIGHT. SFC FRONT WL BE JUST N (NEBRASKA) WHERE BEST UPWARD FORCING DUE TO JET IS FCST. EXPECT TO SEE MOST ACTIVITY OVER FAR N ZONES NEAR VCNTY OF SLGT RISK AREA. ALSO...WK DIFFLUENT FLOW ALFOT SHOULD AID IN FURTHER CLOUD DVLPMNT AND STORMS BY 06Z. CONSIDERING LATEST SATELLITE IMAGERY...COULD BE EARLIER FOR SOME LOCATIONS. FRONT THEN SLIDES THRU CWA BY 12Z WED WITH UPSLOP FLOW SETTING UP. MODELS SIMILAR IN SFC LOW OVER SW KANSAS WEDNESDAY WITH FRONT EXTENDING ACROSS THE STATE. HIEST CAPES WL BE OVER FAR E PARTS OF FA. FEEL WITH UNSTABLE AMS AND NEARBY FRONT...TSTMS COULD DVLP EARLY WED. HOWEVER...ETA POINTS TO MAIN ACTIVITY OVER E AND S ZONES LATER WEDNESDAY AS SFC MSTR CONVERGENCE INCREASES. AS A RESULT...WL MENTION 40/50 PERCENT CHC TSTMS FOR CWA. REGARDLESS...COOLER DAYS AHEAD AFTER FROPA. UPSLOP FLOW LOOKS TO CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY WITH PLENTY OF LOW LVL MSTR AND TSTM OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES LIKELY. AVN HINTS AT ANOTHER SHORTWAVE THURSDAY THAT MAY AFFECT 4TH PERIOD POPS ACROSS W HALF OF CWA. WL STAY CLOSE TO NGM POPS AND TEMPS IN ALL 4 PERIODS. AVN LOOKS TOO WARM EARLY ON. .GLD...NONE. KPL

NEZ079>081-220710- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GOODLAND KS 621 PM MDT (721 PM CDT) TUE JUL 21 1998 ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR EXTREME SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA UNTIL 2 AM CDT (1 AM MDT)... COUNTIES INCLUDED IN THIS WATCH ARE...DUNDY...HITCHCOCK...AND RED WILLOW. CITIES INCLUDED ARE MCCOOK...CULBERTSON...TRENTON...AND BENKELMAN. AT 705 PM CDT (605 PM MDT) STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPING ALONG AND NORTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 34 BETWEEN THE COLORADO STATE LINE AND CULBERTSON...THEN EAST TO BETWEEN HOLDREGE AND ALMA. A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WAS FARTHER WEST IN THE SIDNEY NEBRASKA AND STERLING COLORADO AREAS MOVING EAST SOUTHEAST AT 15 MPH. GIVEN THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF SOME STORMS IN THE AREA THIS EVENING... VERY HEAVY RAINFALL OF MORE THAN 2 1/2 INCHES AN HOUR ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL CAUSE WATER TO RUN IN WASHES...DITCHES...AND OTHER NORMALLY DRY LOW LYING AREAS. REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE IN AND NEAR THE WATCH AREA. WATCH FOR THREATENING WEATHER AND LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE SOURCE OF WEATHER INFORMATION FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE WIND IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH AND HAIL OF 3/4 INCHES IN DIAMETER OR LARGER. STORMS IN THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE AND NORTHEAST COLORADO HAVE ALREADY PRODUCED WIND GUSTS OF 70 MPH AND GOLFBALL SIZE HAIL. DURING A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH...BE R EADY TO MOVE TO A SMALL INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR POSSIBLE IF A WARNING IS ISSUED. ENTWISTLE
