NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
220 AM CDT TUE OCT 6 1998

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A

   * FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR
     ANDERSON COUNTY IN TEXAS
     INCLUDING PALESTINE

   * UNTIL 700 AM CDT

   * AT 220 AM...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATES
     SHOWED THAT 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN OVER THE EASTERN
     HALF OF ANDERSON COUNTY SINCE MIDNIGHT. AN ADDITIONAL 2 INCHES 
     IS EXPECTED THROUGH 7 AM. THIS WILL RESULT IN FLOODING OF LOW
     LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

   * OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE FRANKSTON...NECHES
     ...ELKHART AND SLOCUM.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THESE STORMS WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY
ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS AND OTHER
LOW LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLASH FLOODING.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT
QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY
IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOOD^ING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. DO NOT DRIVE 
YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
