NORTHERN ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 200 PM MST WED JUL 22 1998 SYNOPSIS...MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL REMAIN ENTRENCHED OVER NORTHERN ARIZONA THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. AS A RESULT...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH MID EVENING EACH DAY...WITH THE MOST ACTIVITY OCCURRING FROM THE MOGOLLON RIM INTO YAVAPAI AND GILA COUNTIES. THE MOISTURE AND CLOUD COVER WILL LEAD TO HIGH TEMPERATURES A LITTLE BELOW AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. DISCUSSION...NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS OVER CWA ATTM. HEAVY RAIN BUT NO HAIL REPORTS. QUITE A BIT OF ACTIVITY UPSTREAM AS WELL. REPORTS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN AND POTENTIAL FLOOD PROBLEMS...SO OFFICE CONSENSUS IS TO GO WITH FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ALL BUT NE ZONES. LIKELY THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE MINOR PERTURBATION TO KEEP CONVECTION GOING INTO EVENING...WOULD EXPECT AREAL COVERAGE TO DROP OFF SOME AFTER SUNSET THOUGH. FOR LATER PERIODS...DEEPEST MOISTURE AXIS GENERALLY OVR SOUTHWEST THIRD OF STATE AND SEE NO REASON NOT TO GO WITH A PERSISTENT MONSOON FORECAST...ZNS 8...15...16 AND 18 THE WETTEST...NE CORNER DRIEST BUT STILL ACTIVE. FLG 463 INW 312 BET FLG...FLASH FLOOD WATCH TIL 10 PM MST FOR ZNS 4>8...12>18.
