NORTHERN ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ
200 PM TUE AUG 25 1998

SYNOPSIS...A DRYING TREND IS EXPECTED LATER TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY.
THIS WILL BRING A DECREASE IN THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY...HOWEVER ENOUGH
LOW LEVEL MOISTURE REMAINS FOR A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS EACH DAY.
SOME MONSOONAL MOISTURE MAY WOK BACK NORTH IN THE EXTENDED LEAVING
THE THREAT FOR THUNDERSTORMS INTO THE WEEKEND.

DISCUSSION...DRYING EVIDENT BEHIND WEAK S/WV IN CENTRAL ARIZONA. THIS
S/WV TO EJECT NORTHEAST OUT OF STATE TONIGHT...BUT NOT BEFORE
ENHANCING SOME THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY FOR THE REST OF TODAY. WITH
DRYING AIR...TSTORMS NOT LIKELY TO LAST MUCH PAST SUNSET...SHOULD BE
MAINLY CLEAR AFTER MIDNIGHT. ENOUGH RESIDUAL MOISTURE REMAINS
WEDNESDAY FOR ADDITIONAL TSTORMS...ALTHOUGH AREAL COVERAGE TO BE MUCH
LESS WITH MAIN FOCUSING ALONG RIMS. MODELS DIFFER DRASTICALLY INTO
THURSDAY WITH NGM/AVN GOING VERY DRY. ETA MODEL RESPONDS TO MORE
WEAKNESS IN THE EAST PACIFIC AND ALLOWING QUITE A BIT OF GULF
MOISTURE TO RETURN INTO ARIZONA. WITH AMOUNT OF MOISTURE IN THE GULF
RIGHT NOW...IT IS CONCEIVABLE THAT SOME WILL RETURN BACK NORTH
THURSDAY AND THROUGH THE EXTENDED WITH GENERAL HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE
SOUTHWEST. WILL NOT DRY OUT ZONES BUT WILL STAY WITH CHANCE TYPE POPS
THURSDAY THROUGH EXTENDED. SFC TEMPS TO WARM SLIGHTLY NEXT FEW DAYS
AS CLOUD COVER DECREASES AND WILL REFLECT THIS IN ZONES. PETERSON
