000 TTAA00 KPHX 200034 RRA SVRPHX AZC013-021-200115- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PHOENIX AZ 532 PM MST SAT JUL 19 1997 * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR EAST CENTRAL MARICOPA COUNTY IN CENTRAL ARIZONA NORTHWESTERN PINAL COUNTY IN CENTRAL ARIZONA * UNTIL 615 PM MST * SOME LOCATIONS AFFECTED CHANDLER CHANDLER HEIGHTS GILBERT SUN LAKES OCOTILLO HIGLEY QUEEN CREEK * AT 530 PM MST RADAR INDICATED A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE EAST VALLEY AND OVER THE NORTHERN SECTIONS OF THE GILA RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION. MOVEMENT WAS TO THE NORTH AT 10 MPH. STRONG DAMAGING WINDS ARE POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS. SOUTHERN GILA...AND NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT... THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MARICOPA... SOUTHERN GILA...AND NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THE MAIN THREAT FROM THESE STORMS WILL BE HIGH WINDS... LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL...AND BLOWING DUST. MOISTURE LEVELS HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER MOST OF THE OUTLOOK AREA TODAY. THE AIRMASS OVER MARICOPA...SOUTHERN GILA...AND NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY WAS RATHER UNSTABLE THIS MORNING...AND AS A RESULT...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FORMED EARLY THIS MORNING OVER THESE AREAS. RAINFALL FROM THESE EARLIER STORMS HAS MADE THE AIRMASS MORE HUMID...AND DAYTIME HEATING HAS FURTHER DESTABILIZED THE ATMOSPHERE. THE GREATEST THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING WILL BE OVER SOUTHERN GILA COUNTY. LATER TONIGHT THE MAIN THREAT AREA WILL SHIFT WESTWARD INTO MARICOPA AND NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY. WIND SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH COULD OCCUR WITH SOME OF THE STRONGER STORMS TONIGHT...AND OUTFLOW FROM SOME OF THE STRONGER STORMS COULD PRODUCE AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ACROSS THE CENTRAL DESERTS. MANY OF THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOVING SLOWLY TO THE NORTH THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...SO HEAVY RAINFALL WILL ALSO BE A CONCERN WITH THE STRONGER STORMS. ....................................................................
