000 TTAA00 KNYC 190017 RRA SVRNYC NYC059-190100- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 813 PM EDT FRI JUL 18 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 900 PM EDT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTHEAST NEW YORK ...NASSAU COUNTY AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS AT 8:08 PM...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVING EAST AT 30 TO 35 MPH OVER QUEENS COUNTY. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS... LARGE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF TREES DOWN AND POWER OUTAGES IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY WITH THE SAME CLUSTER OF STORMS. WHEN THUNDERSTORMS ARE OCCURRING...PEOPLE SHOULD MOVE INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING. DO NOT STAND BY WINDOWS.
