IN EAST TENNESSEE ...SCOTT COUNTY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM NEAR THE TOWN OF ONEIDA. THIS STORM WILL LIKELY CONTAIN DAMAGING WINDS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KNOXVILLE/TRI-CITIES TN 318 PM EST TUE MAR 25 1997 AREA OBS THIS AFTERNOON INDICATE WINDS GUSTING TO AS MUCH AS 25 KTS AT CSV AND 30 KTS AT TYS. TOWER DATA SHOWS WINDS GUSTING TO NEAR 50 MPH AT ELEVATIONS GENERALLY 1600-4000 FT. BELIEVE THAT AS MIXING SUBSIDES LATER THIS AFTERNOON...ADVISORY CAN BE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE. WOULD STILL RECOMMEND WORDING ZONES AS WINDY OR CAUTION ADVISED ON AREA LAKES FOR TONIGHT AS WINDS WILL NOT DIE OUT COMPLETELY. THE AVN HAS NOW COME AROUND TO THE ETA SOLUTION OF A FASTER MORE PROGRESSIVE POS TILTED TROF WITH SOME ENERGY BEING LEFT BEHIND IN THE SOUTHWEST US. MAIN PCPN WILL OCCUR WITH COLD FRONT WHICH SHOULD REACH PLATEAU BY 03Z AND REACH THE CENTRAL MID ATLANTIC STATES BY 12Z. LOOKS LIKE A FAIRLY QUICK SHOT (6 HRS) OF RW/TRW. SVR THREAT VERY MINIMAL. MAY SEE ISOLATED WIND DAMAGE DUE TO STRONG LOW LVL WIND FIELDS ALREADY IN PLACE. THE QUESTION FOR TOMORROW IS HOW LONG LOW CLDS WILL HANG IN.
