WEST TENNESSEE/MISSOURI BOOTHEEL SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN
1130 AM CST FRI MAR 28 1997

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS
EVENING...

THERE IS A MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MUCH OF WEST
TENNESSEE AND THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS
EVENING.

A COLD FRONT WAS PUSHING INTO NORTHWEST ARKANSAS LATE THIS MORNING..
AND THIS FRONT WILL HELP TO SET OFF THUNDERSTORMS AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON
ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH. AHEAD OF THE FRONT STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS WERE
PUMPING WARM..MOIST AND INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE AIR INTO THE AREA.

AS THE FRONT APPROACHES..A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP
OVER MISSOURI AND ARKANSAS. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS THE
MISSISSIPPI RIVER INTO WEST TENNESSEE AFTER 3 PM. GIVEN THE UNSTABLE
AIR MASS IN PLACE AND THE STRONG WINDS AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT..SOME
OF THESE STORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE.

THE PRIMARY THREAT WITH THIS AFTERNOONS STORMS WILL BE LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS. HOWEVER..WITH THE AMOUNT OF WIND SHEAR ASSOCIATED WITH
THIS WEATHER SYSTEM..AND THE UNSTABLE AIR MASS..ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE
ALSO POSSIBLE.

PEOPLE IN WEST TENNESSEE AND THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL SHOULD MONITOR
THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION CLOSELY. LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER
RADIO FOR THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION..INCLUDING WATCHES AND
WARNINGS.

AMATEUR RADIO SPOTTER GROUPS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL SHOULD
BE PREPARED FOR SKYWARN ACTIVATION THIS AFTERNOON.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO..LOCAL TV..RADIO OR CABLE TELEVISION
