IN WESTERN TEXAS ...WESTERN PRESIDIO COUNTY AT 510 PM CDT...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS INDICATED BY MIDLAND DOPPLER RADAR 34 MILES NORTH OF PRESIDIO OR 9 MILES NORTHEAST OF RUIDOSA MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 10 MPH. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND TX 246 PM CDT (146 PM MDT) WED JUN 25 1997 WEAK UPPER LOW PRESSURE LOCATED JUST EAST OF THE BIG BEND WAS KEEPING MOIST SE WIND FLOW OVER THE ENTIRE REGION THIS AFTERNOON. ATMOSPHERE CONTINUES TO DEVELOP MORE TROPICAL TYPE CHARACTERISTICS WITH WEAK FLOW ALOFT AND INCREASED HIGHER MOISTURE. THIS TREND SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY AS UPR LOW DISSIPATES OVER SW/TX. BROAD HIGH PRESSURE TO BUILD OVER THE W/TX REGION FOR LATE THIS WEEK AFTER UPR LOW WASHES OUT. DRYING LOOKS TO BE A SLOW PROCESS AS WINDS WL BE SLOW TO RETURN TO MORE W-LY COMPONENT. LOWER CLOUDS HAVE BEEN SLOW TO SUBSIDE BUT PATCHES OF BLUE ARE MORE VISIBLE ALONG W/HIGHER CIGS ATTM. SFC FEATURES REMAIN RATHER WEAK AND POORLY DEFINED ISOLD TSRA HAS BEGUN OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS WHERE SUNLIGHT HAS HAD BETTER PENETRATION AND AREAS CLOSER TO THE POORLY DEFINED UPR LOW CENTER OVER RIO GRANDE VALLEY.
