NORTHERN GREAT BASIN FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKO NV 200 AM PDT SUN AUG 17 1997 CLOUDS FROM STRONGER THAN ANTICIPATED S/WV MAINLY EAST OF STATE ATTM. THREE FEATURES SEEN ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY TO AFFECT WEATHER TODAY. LOW CENTER SOUTHWEST OF SAN DIEGO HAS BEEN BRINGING MUCH HIGHER DEWPOINTS INTO SOUTHERN NEVADA...THIS PROBABLY WILL NOT MAKE IT INTO EKO CWA WITH STRONGER SOUTHWEST FLOW ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA. ANOTHER VORT CENTER WEST OF PORTLAND WILL DROP SOUTHEAST TODAY WITH SPEED MAX SHOWN TO ITS SOUTH MOVG ACROSS NORTHERN NEVADA BORDER. THIS COMBINED WITH WEAK CONVERGENCE FROM CENTRAL LANDER COUNTY INTO NORTHERN WHITE PINE COUNTY AND SLIGHTLY UNSTABLE AIRMASS EAST WILL MAKE FOR AFTERNOON CLOUDS NORTHEAST. WHITE PINE COUNTY CLOSE ENOUGH TO HIGHER DEWPOINTS THAT SLIGHT CHANCE POPS LOOK GOOD FOR THIS AFTERNOON. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LOW EJECTS EASTWARD MONDAY AN TUESDAY WITH STRENGTHENING SYSTEM IN GULF OF ALASKA PROVIDING RISING HGHTS OVER GREAT BASIN. EKO000 WMC000 ELY100 PETERSON
