IN WEST CENTRAL NEBRASKA ...NORTHERN ARTHUR COUNTY AT 1234 AM MDT...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS INDICATED BY NORTH PLATTE DOPPLER RADAR 39 MILES NORTH OF OGALLALA OR 11 MILES NORTHWEST OF ARTHUR MOVING NORTHEAST AT 5 MPH. THIS STORM IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN IN RURAL AREAS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH... DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE 300 AM CDT SAT JUN 28 1997 ...THE USUAL SUMMER PROBLEMS OF THUNDERSTORMS AND TEMPERATURES... CURRENT SURFACE MAP AND 88D RADAR SHOWING SEVERAL BOUNDRIES SCOOTING AROUND THE PLAINS. DEWPOINT POOLING IS ALSO EVIDENT ALONG THE SOUTH DAKOTA/NEBRASKA BORDER AS PER ADAP. SATELLITE SHOWS STORMS DEVELOPING IN THE CHEYENNE AREA AS WELL AS BUILDUPS OF CU ALONG A FRONT/TROUGH FROM THE SOUTHWEST PANHANDLE TO NEAR VALENTINE. MAIN QUESTION WILL BE WHICH BOUNDRY WILL BECOME THE MAIN FOCUS FOR CONVECTION THIS EVENING. MODELS SHOW UPPER FLOW CONTINUING TO BE PARALLEL WITH FRONT OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS...THEREFORE NOT MUCH CHANGE EXPECTED DURING THE PERIOD. AVN/NGM OVERDEEPEN LOW ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY MONDAY MORNING SO FEEL ETA IS THE WAY TO GO. CONVECTION THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT WILL REMAIN CONFINED TO PANHANDLE AND NORTH CENTRAL PART OF STATE AS CAP SHOULD HOLD CONVECTION TO A MINIMUM IN SOUTHWEST. WOULD RECOMMEND BREAKING OFF PANHANDLE AND NORTH CENTRAL COUNTIES FOR TO REFLECT HIGHER POPS WITH ONLY ISOLATED WORDING IF THAT IN THE SOUTHWEST. WITH PATTERN REMAINING NEARLY THE SAME...PERSISTENCE AT LEAST IN TEMPS WOULD SEEM THE WAY TO GO. GUIDANCE REFLECTS THIS PRETTY WELL WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN THE LAST RUN OR TWO. WOULD EXPECT CONVECTION TO DEVELOP ALONG SD/NEB BORDER THEN DRIFT SEWD.
