SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY RAINFALL OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
900 PM CDT FRI AUG 22 1997

THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAINFALL COULD AFFECT SOUTHEAST TEXAS
TONIGHT...ALTHOUGH THEY WILL BE MAINLY EAST OF A LINE FROM CROCKETT
TO COLDSPRING TO LIBERTY TO HIGH ISLAND. IN ADDITION THE POSSIBILITY
OF ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXSIST OVER ALL OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS
TONIGHT.

SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORMS THAT MOVED THROUGH THE AREA EARLIER THIS
EVENING HAVE LEFT BEHIND A SHALLOW DOME OF COOL SATURATED AIR OVER
THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE REGION. AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE WILL HELP A LARGE CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP AND
MOVE SOUTH ALONG THE SABINE RIVER VALLEY. THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP
ALONG THE WESTERN FLANK OF THIS CLUSTER AND SPREAD TO THE SOUTHWEST
BRINGING THE THREAT OF LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AND POSSIBLY SEVERE WEATHER
IN THE FORM OF GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL.

WITH THE GULF MOISTURE PRESENT IN THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE SHALLOW DOME
OF COOL AIR TO THE EAST TO FOCUS THE CONVECTION ALONG...RAINFALL
AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE MAINLY EAST OF A LINE FROM HIGH
ISLAND TO CROCKETT.

MARINE INTERESTS ALONG THE UPPER TEXAS COASTAL WATERS CAN EXPECT
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TO BE A THREAT THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT
HOURS.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS AND STORM SPOTTERS SHOULD CONTINUE TO
MONITOR THIS WEATHER SITUATION.
