000 TTAA00 KGRI 070251 RRA SVRGRI NEC175-070330- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE 950 PM CDT TUE MAY 6 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HASTINGS NE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN CENTRAL NEBRASKA ...WESTERN VALLEY COUNTY PERSONS IN ARCADIA CAN EXPECT HAIL UP TO 1 1/2 INCHES IN DIAMETER AROUND 1015. AT 950 A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS 15 MILES WEST OF ORD OR 65 MILES NORTHWEST OF GRAND ISLAND. THE STORM WAS MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 35 MPH. PEOPLE IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD GET INTO A REINFORCED SHELTER FOR PROTECTION FROM DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...VERY H EAVY RAIN...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING. DROZD

CENTRAL NEBRASKA/NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE 300 PM CDT TUE MAY 6 1997 FORECAST PROBLEMS TODAY INCLUDE THUNDERSTORM (MCS) DEVELOPMENT TONIGHT AND MOVEMENT OF SYSTEM ACROSS THE CWA TOMORROW. LATEST SFC ANAL SHOWED HIGH PRESSURE TO THE EAST AND LOW IN SE WY RESULTING IN A MODERATE S/SE FLOW ACROSST THE CWA. 50+ DEW POINTS IN SRN KS AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO ADVECT NORTH AS LOW LEVEL JET SETS UP TONIGHT. PLACED WARM FRONT FROM BBF-CNK ALONG THE 45 DEW POINTS. ALOFT 7H LOW IN NE COLO AT 12Z WHICH WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RA- ACROSS THE AREA EARLIER THIS AM...AND PROFILER DERIVED VORTICITY STILL SHOWING 7H PVA IN CWA. SOME DIFFERNCES IN THE MODELS WITH ETA/NGM BEING FAVORED BY NCEP. THETAE RIDGE DEVELOPS ACROSS THE AREA TONIGHT A WITH LOW LEVEL JET IDEA OF MCS DEVELOPING IS NOT UNREASONABLE BUT FLY IN OINTMENT COULD BE CONVECTION IN TX/NM WHICH COULD CUT OFF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE. LOW MOVES EAST ON WED BUT APPEARS BOUNDARY MAY HANGUP IN NRN KS AND AREA MAY STAY IN CLOUDS PRECIP LONGER THAN PREVIOULSLY THOUGHT. ANOTHER SYSTEM MOVES ACROSS THE NORTH ON THURSDAY WITH ASSOCIATED DYNAMICS DRAGGING ACROSS THE CWA. IF STORMS DEVELOP FEEL IT WILL PROBABLY BE AFTER MIDNIGHT AND THEN CHANCE OF SHOWERS INTO THE AFTERNOON IN NEB CWA/EVENING IN KS. THEN IT LOOKS LIKE THERE COULD BE PRECIPITATION DEVELOPING AGAIN ON THRUSDAY. WITH CLOUDS AND CHANCE OF PRECIP THE NEXT TWO DAYS WILL TEND TO GO ON TE COOLER SIDE.
