NORTHERN ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 845 AM MST FRI SEP 5 1997 TODAY WON'T BE A QUIET DAY EXACTLY...BUT IT WILL BE MORE ON THE CALM SIDE ACROSS MOST OF THE NORTHLAND THAN IT HAS BEEN. SFC DEWPTS THIS MORNING ARE RUNNING A FEW DEGREES LOWER THAN YESTERDAY. PERHAPS INDICATIVE OF A SOMEWHAT MORE STABLE TREND THAT WILL TEND TO RESULT IN A MORE DIURNAL PATTERN OF CONVECTION. THE MORNING FGZ SOUNDING SHOWS A COUPLE INVERSIONS...THE FIRST AND WEAKER ONE AT 600 MB. THE SECOND REVEALS SUBSIDENCE NEAR 520 MB ASSOCIATED WITH THE STRONGER CAP. PROGGED H7 MSO THTE IS EVEN NOTICEABLY LOWER AROUND THE NORTHLAND THROUGH TODAY. THIS AFTERNOON'S WX SHOULD BE MARKED BY TS OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY WITH LITTLE EXPECTATION FOR REACHING SEVERE LEVELS. SINGLE CELL PULSE-TYPE STORMS THAT DON'T PERSIST ALL THAT LONG SHOULD BE THE RULE TODAY. EXCEPT FOR THE KAIBAB...IT LOOKS LIKE THAT WILL BE THE RELATIVE HOTSPOT FOR THIS AFTN IN THE FLG CWFA. AS FOR THE REMAINING PDS...MORE OF THE SAME. GENERAL CONVECTION MAINLY ALONG THE RIM AND HIGH COUNTRY...ENDING WITHIN HOURS AFTER SUNSET. TEMP TRENDS LOOK GOOD WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN HIGHS...SLIGHT INCREASES IF ANY CHANGES. WINDS...NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT NEAR SOME OF THE STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS. THE LATEST FLG FORECAST LOOKS FINE AS IS...NO CHANGES THIS MORNING. FLG 5353 INW 3333 PEREZ FLG...NONE.
