000 TTAA00 KSAT 110348 FFWSAT TXC177-285-110700- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 1047 PM CDT THU APR 10 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 200 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS ...GONZALES COUNTY...LAVACA COUNTY RADAR ESTIMATES RAINFALL RATES OF BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES AN HOUR OVER SOUTHWEST GONZALES AND WESTERN LAVACA COUNTIES DURING THE PAST HOUR. SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUING OVER THESE COUNTIES FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. WITH THE GROUND ALREADY SATURATED... THE RUNOFF WILL BE QUICK AND DANGEROUS. MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID DRIVING AND IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...USE EXTREME CAUTION. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. AVOID ALREADY FLOODED AREAS. TRAVELERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADS. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...LEAVE IT AND MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO HIGHER GROUND IF YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY.
