000 TTAA00 KSAT 110318 FFWSAT TXC123-255-110715- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 1015 PM CDT THU APR 10 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 215 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS ...EASTERN DE WITT COUNTY...NORTHEASTERN KARNES COUNTY RADAR ESTIMATES WIDESPREAD RAINS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES OVER EASTERN DEWITT AND NORTHEASTERN KARNES COUNTY IN THE LAST FEW HOURS WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS NEAR 4 INCHES. THE HEAVIEST RAIN NEAR 4 INCHES WAS BETWEEN HOCHHEIM AND CUERO AND YOAKUM. THE STORMS OVER NORTHEAST EASTERN DEWITT AND NORTHEAST KARNES COUNTY WERE PRODUCING INTENSE RAINS WITH MORE EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS. 8 INCHES OF WATER HAS BEEN REPORTED IN CONCRETE ON HIGHWAY 183 BETWEEN CUERO AND HOCHHEIM. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING. A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT TO ESCAPE RISING WATER DURING THREATENING RAINS. r &
