DISPATCHERS...PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR EMERGENCY MANAGERS IMMEDIATELY. SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL BE NEEDED LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. AN INTENSE COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP THROUGH THE AREA DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. THE AIR MASS AHEAD OF THE FRONT HAS EXTENSIVE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE...WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE LOW 70S ACROSS THE AREA. THE FRONT WILL PROVIDE ENOUGH LIFT TO PRODUCE THUNDERSTORMS...SOME OF WHICH WILL LIKELY BECOME SEVERE. THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE AFTERNOON IN SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN AND THEN MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING. THE BEST CHANCE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE BETWEEN 3 PM AND 8 PM. SHOULD SEVERE WEATHER DEVELOP...THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE FROM DAMAGING WIND WHICH WILL EXCEED 60 MPH AND COULD APPROACH 100 MPH IN THE MORE INTENSE STORMS. HOWEVER... ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE ALONG WITH HAIL AROUND ONE INCH IN DIAMETER. MOVEMENT OF THE STORMS WILL BE EAST AT 35 TO 40 MPH. STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...TO YOUR LOCAL RADIO...TELEVISION AND CABLE TELEVISION STATIONS FOR LATER UPDATES ON THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN. DLK/BT
