NMZ001>021-026-282200- SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR NORTHERN TWO THIRDS OF NEW MEXICO 1005 AM MDT THU MAY 29 1997 THIS OUTLOOK PERTAINS TO THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN NEW MEXICO: BERNALILLO GUADALUPE RIO ARRIBA SOCORRO CATRON HARDING ROOSEVELT TAOS CHAVES LINCOLN SANDOVAL TORRANCE CIBOLA LOS ALAMOS SAN JUAN QUAY COLFAX MCKINLEY SAN MIGUEL UNION CURRY MORA SANTA FE VALENCIA DE BACA SYNOPSIS: THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS MUCH OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO THIS AFTERNOON. SURFACE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE REMAINS IN PLACE FROM EXTREME NORTHEAST PLAINS TO SOUTHCENTRAL MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXICO. AIRMASS IS MOIST AND UNSTABLE TO EAST OF THE TROUGH WITH YET ANOTHER WEAK DISTURBANCE IN THE NORTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT APPROACHING THE AREA. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP ALONG THE TROUGH AROUND MIDDAY AND MOVE SOUTHEASTWARD. BECAUSE OF THE FAVORABLE WIND SHEAR AND STRONG INSTABILITY...ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE. THE PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE LARGE HAIL BUT THE VERTICAL WIND PROFILES SUGGEST ISOLATED SUPERCELLS ARE POSSIBLE. SPOTTER ACTIVATION MAY BE REQUIRED THIS AFTERNOON. MJF
