000 TTAA00 KABQ 232310 SVRABQ NMC053-240000- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ALBUQUERQUE NM 512 PM MDT WED APR 23 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 600 PM MDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN CENTRAL NEW MEXICO ...NORTHERN SOCORRO COUNTY AT 509 PM RADAR SHOWED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM JUST WEST OF ALAMO IN NORTHWESTERN SLOCORRO COUNTY. MOVEMENT WAS EAST AT 30 MPH. PERSONS IN THE COMMUNITY OF ALAMO SHOULD SEEK SHELTER NOW.

AN ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN PROMISES TO BRING A WIDE VARIETY OF SPRINGTIME CONDITIONS TO NEW MEXICO FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WORK WEEK AND INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. A MAJOR SPRING STORM WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE WESTERN STATES TODAY BEFORE SETTLING OVER NORTHERN ARIZONA THURSDAY. THE STORM WILL THEN BEGIN A SLOW SOUTHWARD DRIFT BEFORE MOVING EASTWARD ACROSS NEW MEXICO LATE FRIDAY OR SATURDAY MORNING. THIS WILL BRING A RETURN TO UNSEASONABLY COOL SHOWERY WEATHER FOR MUCH OF THE STATE DURING THIS PERIOD...WITH ACCUMULATING SNOW POSSIBLE FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY.
