THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TOPEKA HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING       EFFECTIVE UNTIL  445 PM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN EAST CENTRAL KANSAS
 
   ...SHAWNEE COUNTY
 
AT 138 PM CDT DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A 10 MILE WIDE BAND OF
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL EXTENDING FROM 10 MILES
NORTHWEST OF TOPEKA NEAR SILVER LAKE TO 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF DOVER.
THESE STORMS WERE MOVING TO THE EAST AT 15 MPH AND WILL MOVE ACROSS
MOST OF SHAWNEE COUNTY INCLUDING THE TOPEKA AREA BY 230 PM CDT.
 
RADAR ESTIMATES INDICATE THAT ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL MAY OCCUR
WITH THE PASSAGE OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS. THIS WOULD OCCUR ON GROUND
THAT HAS ALREADY RECEIVED BETWEEN 2 AND 4 INCHES OF RAIN SINCE THIS MORN
GTHIS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL CREATE FLASH FLOODING ACROSS MUCH OF
SHAWNEE COUNTY UNTIL 445 PM CDT.
 
 
DONT DRIVE ACROSS FLOODED ROADS!  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN
VEHICLES.
