FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  600 AM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN EAST CENTRAL KANSAS
 
   ...DOUGLAS COUNTY...FRANKLIN COUNTY...EASTERN SHAWNEE COUNTY
 
IN NORTHEAST KANSAS
 
   ...JEFFERSON COUNTY
 
TORRENTIAL RAINFALLS OF 2 TO 5 INCHES BETWEEN ABOUT 8PM AND 2AM HAVE
PRODUCED WIDESPREAD FLOODING THROUGH DOUGLAS...JEFFERSON...FRANKLIN AND
EASTERN SHAWNEE COUNTIES...GENERALLY BETWEEN LAWRENCE...TOPEKA AND
OTTAWA...AND OTHER AREAS NORTH OF LAWRENCE THROUGH OSKALOOSA AND VALLEY
FALLS.
 
SEVERAL HIGHWAYS...INCLUDING THE KANSAS TURNPIKE...WERE REPORTEDLY
CLOSED IN THE LAWRENCE AREA. THE TURNPIKE HAS NOW BEEN REOPENED. OTHER R
DNORTH OF OTTAWA AND BETWEEN LAWRENCE AND TOPEKA HAVE ALSO BEEN BARRICADEOR UNDER WATER. AREAS NEAR DITCHES AND CREEKS ARE FLOODED.
 
TRAVEL ACROSS THE AREA IS DISCOURAGED. MANY INTERSECTIONS...LOW LYING
AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS ARE ALSO FLOODED.
 
PERIODS OF RAIN...ALTHOUGH NOT AS HEAVY...WILL LINGER THROUGH
DOUGLAS...JEFFERSON...FRANKLIN AND SHAWNEE COUNTIES OVERNIGHT. THE
ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL ONLY ADD TO THE ONGOING FLOOD AND DRAINAGE
PROBLEMS.
 
DONT DRIVE ACROSS FLOODED ROADS!  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN
VEHICLES.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TOt RECOGNIZE THE
DANGER OF FLOODING.
