THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHARLESTON HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  415 AM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION......
 
IN SOUTH CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA
 
   ...NORTHEASTERN NICHOLAS COUNTY
 
INDIAN ROCK DAM HAS BEEN BREACHED NEAR CRAIGSVILLE WV AND AT LEAST 100
PEOPLE ARE BEING EVACUATED. EVACUEES ARE BEING RELOCATED AT BEAVER GRADE
SCHOOL. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL REPORT THAT 14 FEET OF THE THICKNESS OF THE
DAM HAS BEEN WASHED AWAY AND THE DAM MAY COMPLETELY FAIL.  THIS IS A
VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION...AND PEOPLE ARE TO QUICKLY LEAVE THE AREA AND
AREAS NEAR CHERRY RUN AND ROCK CAMP RUN THAT ARE BELOW THE DAM.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT.  IT'S
IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS...RIVERS...OR
CREEKS WHICH CAN BECOME KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS.  CAMPERS SHOULD
AVOID CAMPING ALONG STREAMS OR CREEKS DURING THREATENING RAINS.
