THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 800 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY...

IN SOUTHEAST KENTUCKY

   ...LETCHER
 
AT 6:00 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR CONTINUED TO SHOW STRONG
THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN MOVING ACROSS LETCHER COUNTY. RADAR
RAINFALL ESTIMATES INDICATE THAT OVER AN INCH OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS
THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE COUNTY. THE HEAVIEST RAINS HAVE FALLEN AROUND
THE TOWN OF BLACKEY...WHICH IS 8 MILES WEST OF WHITESBURG OR 15 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF HAZARD.

AN ADDITIONAL ONE HALF TO ONE INCH OF RAIN IS LIKELY...FURTHER
AGGRAVATING THE FLOODING SITUATION OVER THE COUNTY.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED
QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
