AZZ004>007-011>014-042100- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ 1130 AM MST THU JUL 4 1996 ...ANOTHER ACTIVE WEATHER DAY EXPECTED FOR NORTHERN ARIZONA... AT 11:30 AM MST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND LIGHTNING DETECTION EQUIPMENT INDICATED THAT THUNDERSTORMS HAD BEGUN FORMING ON THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF NORTHERN ARIZONA. THE STRONGEST STORM WAS LOCATED 5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF PRESCOTT IN YAVAPAI COUNTY AND SHOWED LITTLE MOVEMENT. ANOTHER THUNDERSTORM WAS IN YAVAPAI COUNTY 15 MILES SOUTH OF SELIGMAN. RADAR WAS ESTIMATING RAINFALL RATES NEAR ONE INCH PER HOUR WITH THESE STORMS...WHICH ARE OVER AREAS WHICH RECEIVED SIGNIFICANT RAINS YESTERDAY. ANOTHER ACTIVE WEATHER DAY IS EXPECTED IN NORTHERN ARIZONA ON THIS FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY WITH THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN... FREQUENT LIGHTNING...SMALL HAIL AND GUSTY WINDS. DRIVERS IN NORTHERN ARIZONA SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR REDUCED VISIBILITY IN HEAVY RAIN AND SLICK WET ROADS. PEOPLE WITH OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ON THIS HOLIDAY SHOULD BE ESPECIALLY ALERT TO THE DANGER OF DEADLY LIGHTNING WITH STORMS. SEEK STURDY SHELTER IF THUNDERSTORMS APPROACH YOUR LOCATION. AGAIN...THE THUNDERSTORMS TODAY HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN. STREAMS MAY FILL QUICKLY WITH WATER. DRIVERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED ROADS.
