000 TTAA00 KATL 151652 SVRATL GAC149-285-151730- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA 1250 PM EDT MON JUL 15 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 130 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA ...HEARD COUNTY IN WEST CENTRAL GEORGIA ...TROUP COUNTY AT 1247 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR SHOWED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM NEAR ROANOKE ALABAMA MOVING TO THE EAST AT 35 MPH. THIS STORM WILL PASS NEAR WEST POINT LAKE BY 115 PM. THIS STORM INDICATES STRONG SURFACE WINDS. BOATERS AND FISHERMEN SHOULD SEEK SAFETY IMMEDIATELY. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. FOR YOUR PROTECTION MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DON'T DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

THE RISK AREA IS GENERALLY NORTH OF A LINE FROM SWAINSBORO TO PERRY TO LA GRANGE. A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS WAS OVER GEORGIA AT LATE MORNING. A COLD FRONT OVER EASTERN TENNESSEE AND NORTHERN ALABAMA WILL MOVE INTO NORTH GEORGIA LATER THIS AFTENOON. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA AT LATE MORNING SHOULD INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSIFY DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS.
