HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE KANSAS CITY/PLEASANT HILL MO
100 PM CDT MON MAY 27 1996

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MISSOURI FROM MID AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY
EVENING...

FORECAST...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE MOST LIKELY
BETWEEN 1 PM AND 9 PM OVER PARTS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MISSOURI. A
FEW THUNDERSTORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE...WITH THE PRIMARY THREAT BEING
LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS...NORTH AND EAST OF A ST JOSEPH TO
CARROLLTON TO SEDALIA LINE.

THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER SHOULD DIMINISH SHORTLY AFTER DARK ACROSS
THE OUTLOOK AREA.

THE THREAT OF ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS SHOULD BE LIMITED...BUT LOCATIONS
NORTH OF A ST. JOSEPH TO MOBERLY LINE MAY SEE BRIEF HEAVY RAIN IN
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.

CIVIL DEFENSE COORDINATORS...HAM RADIO OPERATORS AND STORM SPOTTER
NETWORKS MAY WISH TO MONITOR ANY WEATHER UPDATES THIS AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING FOR POSSIBLE ACTIVATION.

DISCUSSION...AN INTENSE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE CENTERED OVER EAST CENTRAL
NEBRASKA WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE TO THE EAST-NORTHEAST AND INTO WESTERN
IOWA BY THIS EVENING. COLD AIR ALOFT IN THE VICINITY OF THE CENTER OF
LOW PRESSURE WILL LIKELY PROVIDE ENOUGH INSTABILITY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT
OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WITH THE AFTERNOON HEATING. A FEW OF THESE
STORMS COULD BECDOME SEVERE BETWEEN 3 AND 8 PM. THE THREAT OF FURTHER
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT WILL DIMINISH AFTER SUNSET AS TEMPERATURES
COOL.
