000 TTAA00 KDLH 202159 FFWDLH WIC003-211700- BULLETIN - EBS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DULUTH MN 459 PM CDT SAT APR 20 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH MN HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL NOON CDT SUNDAY FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN NORTHWEST WISCONSIN ...NORTHERN ASHLAND THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH HAS EXTENDED THE FLOOD WARNING THAT WAS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN ASHLAND COUNTY THROUGH 5 PM TODAY UNTIL NOON ON SUNDAY. WATER CONTINUED TO RISE ALONG THE BAD RIVER NEAR THE TOWN OF ODANAH...WHICH IS 9 MILES EAST OF ASHLAND IN NORTHERN ASHLAND COUNTY. A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGIST ON SCENE IN THIS AREA REPORTED A 300 YARD STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 2 COVERED WITH WATER...AND WATER LEVELS WERE CONTINUING TO RISE. A MAJOR ICE JAM ON THE WEST TO EAST SEGMENT OF THE BAD RIVER JUST NORTH OF THE INTERSECTION OF THE BAD RIVER AND HIGHWAY 2 WAS RESULTING IN WATER BACKING UP ONTO THE LAND ADJACENT TO THE RIVER. FLOODING IN THE COMMUNITY OF ODANAH WAS REPORTED TO BE EXTENSIVE. AT THIS POINT...IT APPEARS THAT THE ICE JAM WILL HOLD THROUGH THE NIGHT...AND MOST LIKELY INTO SUNDAY. RESIDENTS ALONG THE BAD RIVER CAN EXPECT WATER LEVELS TO RISE EVEN HIGHER INTO SUNDAY AS MELTING SNOW AND RUNOFF FROM PREVIOUS RAINFALL EVENTS MAKES ITS WAY INTO THE RIVER BASIN. PERSONS LIVING IN THE COMMUNITY OF ODANAH...OR ANYWHERE ALONG THE BAD RIVER SHOULD MAKE PRECAUTIONS TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND AS WATER LEVELS CONTINUE TO RISE. THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY NIGHT INCLUDES A GOOD CHANCE OF RAIN ACROSS THIS AREA...WHICH MAY CHANGE OVER TO SNOW. ANY ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OR SNOWFALL COULD CAUSE THIS DEVASTATING SITUATION TO PERSIST@ INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. DAP
