000 TTAA00 KDDC 200234 FFWDDC KSC145-200530- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DODGE CITY KS 932 PM CDT MON AUG 19 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1230 AM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS ...NORTHERN PAWNEE COUNTY A SERIES OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAVE PRODUCED TORRENTIAL RAINFALL ACROSS NORTHERN PAWNEE COUNTY THIS EVENING. RADAR-BASED RAINFALL ESTIMATES SUGGEST THAT LOCAL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 3 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED IN A 4 MILE WIDE AREA EXTENDING FROM 3 MILES EAST OF ASH VALLEY TO 6 MILES NORTH OF ROZEL. MOST OF THIS RAINFALL OCCURRED IN LESS THAN TWO HOURS. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL GRADUALLY DEVELOP SOUTHWARD AND WEAKEN LATER THIS EVENING...BUT AN ADDITIONAL INCH OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE IN THE REGION WHICH HAS HAD THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL. RAPID RISES CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG ASH CREEK AND ITS TRIBUTARIES. EVEN THOUGH THE RAIN WILL TAPER OFF BY 1015 PM...WATER WILL CONTINUE TO RISE ON MANY STREAMS. MOTORISTS TRAVELING IN THIS AREA SHOULD EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. REMEMBER THAT WATER ONLY 18 INCHES DEEP IS SUFFICIENT TO WASH MOST AUTOMOBILES FROLM ROADWAYS. DO NOT DRIVE INTO FLOWING WATER SINCE IT OFTEN IS DEEPER AND SWIFTER THAN IT APPEARS. 01/KRUSE
