DISCUSSION...A DEVELOPING SPRING STORM SYSTEM OVER THE WEST WAS
GIVING A SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT OVER THE AREA WITH INCREASING
MOISTURE. AT THE SURFACE...A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP INTO
EAST CENTRAL COLORADO AND NORTHWEST KANSAS IN THE AFTERNOON PROVIDING
A SOUTHTEAST FLOW INTO THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE AND SOUTHEAST WYOMING.
THE AIRMASS WILL BECOME UNSTABLE WITH A SLIGHT RISK FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING.

WYZ059>070-NEZ001>003-019>021-054-055-222115- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHEYENNE WY 200 PM MDT WED MAY 22 1996 SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE BECOMING FAIRLY WIDESPREAD OVER SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND PARTS OF THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE. AT 155 PM ONE STRONG STORM WAS DEVELOPING 5 MILES NORTHEAST OF CHEYENNE. THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THIS STORM PRODUCED PEA SIZE HAIL OVER NORTHEAST CHEYENNE. THE STORM WAS MOVING EAST AT 20 MPH. THIS STORM COULD PRODUCE PEA TO MARBLE SIZE HAIL AS IT MOVES THROUGH EASTERN LARAMIE COUNTY. OTHER THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY ACROSS SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND THE NEBRASKA PANHANDLE WAS WEAK AT 155 PM. STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON AND SOME COULD BECOME RATHER STRONG. JMH
