THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  500 AM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN WEST MASSACHUSETTS
 
   ...FRANKLIN COUNTY...WESTERN HAMPSHIRE COUNTY
 
AT 10 PM...SCATTERED SHOWERS WERE CONTINUING ACROSS FRANKLIN AND
HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS. THUNDERSTORMS WITH LOCALLY
HEAVY RAINS WERE REDEVELOPING IN EXTREME EASTERN NEW YORK JUST TO THE
WEST OF BERKSHIRE COUNTY. THESE STORMS WILL LIKELY SPREAD EASTWARD AND
MOVE ACROSS FRANKLIN AND HAMPSHIRE COUNTIES BY MIDNIGHT. OTHER STORMS
ARE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT.
 
AS OF 9 PM...FLOODING WAS CONTINUING IN THE LEVERETT AREA AS A RESULT
OF THE SAWMILL RIVER OVERFLOWING ITS BANKS.   ALSO...FLOODING WAS
REPORTED IN THE TOWNS OF ERVING...NORTHFIELD...AND DEERFIELD.
 
ONE TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN REPORTED THUS FAR...HOWEVER
RADAR INDICATED THAT UP TO 3 INCHES MAY ALREADY HAVE FALLEN IN SOME
LOCATIONS.
 
MOST DEATHS IN FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A
SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
