000 TTAA00 KLSE 300004 SVRLSE WIC023-300045- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LA CROSSE WI 703 PM CDT SAT JUN 29 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LA CROSSE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 745 PM CDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN ...CRAWFORD COUNTY AT 701 PM...RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM GAYS MILLS TO JUST WEST OF PRAIRIE DU CHEIN OR FROM 40 MILES SOUTHEAST TO 57 MILES SOUTH OF LA CROSSE. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING TO THE EAST AT 35 MPH AND CONTAINED DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THE TOWNS OF MT. ZION...STEUBEN...AND PRAIRIE DU CHIEN WILL BE AFFECTED BY THESE STORMS THROUGH 730 PM. WINDS OF 60 MPH OR HIGHER CAN BE EXPECTED WITH THIS STORM ALONG WITH DEADLY LIGHTNING. MOVE INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING SUCH AS YOUR HOME AND REMAIN THERE UNTIL THE STORM PASSES.

HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY CAN BE EXPECTED FOR THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON ARE GOING TO RANGE FROM THE LOWER 90S IN NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN...WITH MID TO UPPER 90S IN THE WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST PARTS OF THE STATE. THESE TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL RESULT IN HEAT INDICES OF 100 TO 105 IN THE NORTHERN MOST AREAS. HEAT INDICES FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN AREAS ARE GOING TO BE NEAR OR EXCEED 105 FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON. AT 2 PM THE HEAT INDEX AT THE LA CROSSE AIRPORT WAS 114.
