THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN REDDING HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  515 AM PST
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION......
 
IN NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA
 
   ...SOUTHERN LASSEN COUNTY
 
THE HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OF THE PAST WEEK IN LASSEN COUNTY HAVE
CAUSED THE DAM ON LEAVITT LAKE...10 MILES ESE OF SUSANVILLE TO BEGIN TO
FAIL. LASSEN COUNTY OFFICIALS FEEL THE FAILURE OF THE DAM IS IMMINENT.
WHEN THE DAM FAILS THE WATER WILL FLOW INTO THE HONEY LAKE BASIN. WHILE
NO TOWNS ARE IN THIS AREA THE WATER WILL FLOOD HIGHWAY 395 TO A DEPTH OF
ABOUT 3 FEET.
 
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.  DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY.  NEVER TRY TO CROSS A F:LOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT.  TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.
