NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO
800 PM CDT FRI JUN 9 1995

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS HEADED TOWARD WESTERN
MISSOURI...

AT 755 PM...RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS FROM 15
MILES NORTHWEST OF NEVADA...TO NEAR FORT SCOTT KANSAS...THEN TO
BETWEEN PITTSBURG AND CHANUTE.

THE STRONGEST STORM WAS 15 MILES WEST OF PITTSBURG KANSAS.  THIS
STORM WAS SEVERE AND PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS.

THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH AND WILL AFFECT
VERNON AND WESTERN BARTON COUNTIES THIS EVERNING 9 PM.  THE
STRONGEST CELL WEST OF PITTSBURG MAY MOVE INTO WESTERN VERNON COUNTY
BETWEEN 830 AND 9 PM.

IN ADDITION...THESE STORMS ARE PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WHICH
COULD LEAD TO FLOODING.  HEAVY RAINS HAVE OCCURRED IN THIS AREA OVER
THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS.  PERSONS IN BARTON AND VERNON COUNTIES SHOULD
STAY ALERT AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
