NCZ054-067-051 200100- SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ASHEVILLE NC 802 PM EDT SAT AUG 19 1995 AT 8:00 PM WEATHER RADAR INDICATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE IN SOUTHERN MCDOWELL COUNTY AND NORTHERN RUTHERFORD COUNTIES OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. ADDITIONAL STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE INDICATED OVER SWAIN COUNTY...ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN SECTIONS OF THE COUNTY. THE STORMS WERE MOVING TO THE SOUTH AT 10 MPH. THESE STORMS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS...HEAVY RAINFALL OF UP TO AN INCH AN HOUR...FREQUENT LIGHTNING AND SMALL HAIL. DUE TO THE HEAVY RAINFALL RATE AND SLOW MOVMENT OF THESE STORMS PONDING ON ROADS AND IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS CAN BE EXPECTEvD.
