THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1200 AM CDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA
 
   ...CLAY COUNTY...UNION COUNTY...YANKTON COUNTY
 
A LINE OF VERY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WAS MOVING SLOWLY NORTHWARD THROUGH
SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA. THESE STORMS WERE PRODUCING EXTREMELY HEAVY RAIN
WITH REPORTS AND RADAR ESTIMATES OF OVER 3 INCHES IN THE PAST 3 HOURS.
CREEKS AND STREAMS WERE RISING RAPIDLY DUE TO THE RUNOFF. THE MISSION
HILLS AREA NORTHEAST OF YANKTON REPORTED STREAMS AND CREEKS OUT OF THEIR
BANKS WITH SOME EVACUATIONS POSSIBLY NEEDED.
 
THE HEAVY RAINS SHOULD BE ENDING BY 10 PM...BUT RUNOFF COULD CONTINUE TO
CAUSE INCREASES IN THE WATER LEVELS THROUGH MIDNIGHT. IF RISING WATER IS
NOTICED IN YOUR AREA...MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT ATTEMPT
TO DRIVE THROUGH AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLASH FLOODING IS OCCURING OR IS
IMMINENT. ACT QUICKLY TO SAVE YOURSELF. GET OUT OF LOW AREAS
SUBJECT TO FLOODING. AVOID ALREADY FLOODED AREAS. CAMPERS ALONG
STREAMS AND SMALL RIVERS SHOULD MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
