NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EUREKA CA
900 PM PST FRI DEC 29 1995

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN EUREKA CA HAS ISSUED A SMALL RIVER
AND STREAM FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 300 AM PST FOR PEOPLE IN THE
FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...

IN NORTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA

  ...ALL OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY...INCLUDING EUREKA...ARCATA...FRESHWATER
AND GARBERVILLE

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SMALL RIVER AND STREAM
FLOOD WARNING FOR HUMBOLDT COUNTY.

THE PERSISTENT RAIN THAT HAS FALLEN OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS HAS CAUSED
SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS ACROSS HUMBOLDT COUNTY TO RISE TO CAPACITY. 
MANY OF THESE SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS HAVE BEGUN TO FLOW OUT OF
THEIR BANKS THIS EVENING.  JACOBY CREEK IN BAYSIDE LEFT ITS BANKS
EARLIER THIS EVENING FLOODING PORTIONS OF OLD ARCATA ROAD.  SMALL
STREAMS NEAR BLUE LAKE...FRESHWATER AND FIELDBROOK HAVE FLOODED ROADS
IN THOSE AREAS.

PONDING OF WATER ON ROADS AND INTERCHANGES HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT
PROBLEM THIS EVENING.  THE HUMBOLDT SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT REPORTED THE
HOOKTON EXIT OF HIGHWAY 101 IN LOLETA AS FLOODED.  ROCK AND DEBRIS
SLIDES HAVE ALSO CAUSED PROBLEMS ACROSS THE AREA.  A MUDSLIDE HAS
OCCURRED ON WEST END ROAD IN ARCATA.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT.  BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO
RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  DO NOT DRIVE
AROUND POLICE BARRICADES.
