IN SOUTH CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...LEE COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA ...NORTHERN HARNETT COUNTY AT 642 PM EST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR SHOWED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN EXTREME NORTHWEST LEE COUNTY. THE STORM IS MOVING EAST AT 35 MPH. IT WILL PASS OVER SANFORD BY 715 PM AND INTO NORTHERN HARNETT COUNTY NEAR LILLINGTON BY 730 PM. DOWNBURST WINDS FROM A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAN SOMETIMES REACH 100 MPH. A POWERFUL DOWNBURST CAN BE AS BAD AS A TORNADO. THESE WINDS DOWN TREES AND POWER LINES...OVERTURN MOBILE HOMES...AND DAMAGE BUILDINGS.
