SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND SHORT TERM FORECAST
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
305 PM EDT MON JUL 25 1994

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR NEW JERSEY AND PARTS OF
SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK TIL 9 PM...

AT 300 PM RADAR AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS
STILL ALONG THE MONMOUTH COUNTY NEW JERSEY COAST. SEVERAL STORM CELLS
HAVE FORMED IN THIS AREA DURING THE PAST 90 MINUTES. A VERY STRONG CELL
HAD FORMED AT 250 PM BETWEEN ASBURY PARK AND LONG BRANCH JUST EAST OF
ROUTE 18.

OTHER STRONG STORMS WERE JUST OFF THE COAST OVER THE MONMOUTH COUNTY
COASTAL WATERS.  THESE STORMS EXTENDED NORTHEASTWARD TO JUST SOUTH OF
ATLANTIC BEACH ON FIRE ISLAND. INDIVIDUAL CELLS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST
AROUND 15 MILES AN HOUR AND THE AREA WAS EDGING EASTWARD SLOWLY.

ALL AREA RESIDENTS SHOULD WATCH FOR THE FORMATION OR APPROACH OF STRONG
OR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.R WHEN STORMS APPROACH
...GET INSIDE A STURDY BUILDING AND OUT OF THE DANGEROUS ELEMENTS.
