OKZ001>003-TXZ001>026-100500- TEXAS/OKLAHOMA PANHANDLES THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX 100 PM CDT MON MAY 9 1994 THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT ACROSS MOST OF THE TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA PANHANDLES EXCEPT FOR THE EXTREME EASTERN OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE AND FAR NORTHEAST TEXAS PANHANDLE. A WEAK COLD FRONT EXTENDED FROM NEAR DALHART TO AMARILLO TO NORTH OF CHILDRESS EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AND IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ONLY SLOWLY SOUTH THROUGH TONIGHT. SURFACE AND LOW LEVEL WINDS ACROSS THE PANHANDLES WILL REMAIN EAST TO SOUTHEAST AND WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE THE MOISTURE SUPPLY. SKIES HAD BECOME MOSTLY SUNNY ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF THE TEXAS PANHANDLE. STRONG DAYTIME HEATING AND INCREASING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WILL MAKE THE ATMOSPHERE QUITE UNSTABLE IN THIS AREA LATER THIS AFTERNOON. THE PERSISTENT UPPER LEVEL LOW WAS STILL IN ARIZONA AND WILL CONTINUE TO EJECT WEATHER DISTURBANCES ACROSS THE PANHANDLES TODAY AND TUESDAY. ONE OF THESE WEATHER DISTURBANCES WILL APPROACH THE AREA LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL LIKELY INITIATE THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE COLD FRONT ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST HALF OF THE TEXAS PANHANDLE OR IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO. BECAUSE OF THE UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE AND FAVORABLE WIND PROFILE...SOME OF THE STORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE MAINLY THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. THE MAIN THREATS WILL BE HAIL AND STRONG WINDS. LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE AS THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE SLOWLY. SPOTTER GROUPS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS ACROSS THE SLIGHT RISK AREA SHOULD BE READY FOR POSSIBLE ACTIVATION THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE AGAIN IN MOST AREAS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH DAYTIME HEATING AND ANOTHER APPROACHING WEATHER DISTURBANCE. RUBIN
