SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPING IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA THIS AFTERNOON WHICH WILL BRING SOME MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL TO THE AREA. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE STRONGEST IN WESTERN ALACHUA COUNTY WEST OF GAINESVILLE...NORTHEAST OF GAINESVILLE...AT AND SOUTH OF PALATKA AND ALONG THE FLORIDA-GEORGIA BORDER WEST OF FERNANDINA BEACH. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVNG NORTH AT 10 TO 15 MILES AN HOUR AND MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL...GUSTY WINDS...LIGHTNING AND POSSIBLE HAIL. LIGHTNING IS ALWAYS ONE OF THE MAJOR HAZARDS WITH THUNDERSTORMS IN FLORIDA AND WITH WOODLANDS AS DRY AS THEY ARE FOREST FIRES ARE POSSIBLE WITH CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES.
