THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN EVANSVILLE HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  845 AM CST (945 AM EST)
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...
 
IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA
 
   ...NORTHERN DAVIESS COUNTY
 
AT 1225 AM CST...A LEVEE IN THE ELNORA AREA OF NORTHERN DAVIESS COUNTY
IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA WAS IN DANGER OF FAILING. A REPORT FROM THE INDIANA
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY AT 1216 AM CST INDICATED FLOOD WATER WAS
FLOWING OVER THE TOP OF THE LEVEE.
 
EVACUATIONS HAVE OCCURRED IN THE CHEROKEE AREA NEAR ELNORA AND EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS HAVE INDICATED RESIDENTS OF ELNORA SHOULD PREPARE
TO EVACUATE AT ANY TIME IF INSTRUCTED BY AUTHORITIES.
 
MOTORISTS SHOULD BE ADVISED...DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE LEVEE
BREAK... THAT PORTIONS OF STATE ROUTE 57 BETWEEN PLAINVILLE AND ELNORA
AND ALSO PORTIONS OF STATE ROUTE 58 BETWEEN ODON AND ELNORA MAY END UP
FLOODED. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO FLOOD WATERS...YOU COULD BE
WASHED AWAY AND THE ROAD MAY BE WASHED AWAY UNDER THE WATER.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
