SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  730 PM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA
 
   ...FANNIN COUNTY...NORTHERN GILMER COUNTY...MURRAY COUNTY
 
AT 620 PM EDT RADAR SHOWED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ON
THE TENNESSEE STATE LINE NORTH OF CHATSWORTH AND BLUE RIDGE.
THIS LINE WAS MOVING SOUTH AT 15 TO 20 MPH.
 
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE...SEEK SHELTER FROM THE WEATHER IN A
STRONG BUILDING.  DAMAGING WIND...LARGE HAIL...VERY HEAVY RAIN...
AND DEADLY LIGHTNING ARE ALL POSSIBLE IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS.
STAY INSIDE AWAY FROM WINDOWS UNTIL THE STORM HAS PASSED.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ATLANTA GA
530 PM EDT WED AUG 18 1993

AT 525 PM EDT WEATHER SERVICE RADARS SHOWED WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDER-
STORMS WERE DEVELOPING OVER PARTS OF NORTHERN GEORGIA. THE STRONGEST
THUNDERSTORM WAS OCCURRING OVER THE NORTHWESTERN PORTION OF CHATTOOGA
COUNTY NEAR CLOUDLAND. THESE STORMS WERE MOVING SOUTHEAST AT NEAR 20
MILES AN HOUR.

NORTHWEST GEORGIA'S THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED AHEAD OF A LARGER AREA
OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THAT STRETCHED FROM NORTH CAROLINA WEST
ACROSS TENNESSEE. ANOTHER AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS HAD ALSO DEVELOPED OVER
NORTHERN ALABAMA. MOVEMENT ON ALL OF THESE STORMS WAS TO THE SOUTHEAST.
WITH THE AFTERNOON HEAT AS FUEL...ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP
ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA DURING THE REMAINDER OF DAY AND THIS EVENING.

RESIDENTS OF NORTH GEORGIA SHOULD REMAIN ALERT. BE PREPARED TO QUICKLY
SEEK SHELTER IF STORMS DEVELOP OR MOVE INTO YBOUR AREA.
